Caltech will welcome 295 students, along with more than 300 family members, to campus from Monday, April 15, through Wednesday, April 17, for Prefrosh Experience, the Institute's signature welcome event for newly admitted first-year students.
Prefrosh Experience, formerly Prefrosh Weekend, gives attendees a chance to stay overnight in the student residences, meet current students, and interact with members of the Caltech community. The event will also feature dozens of academic and student-life panels as well as attend the Caltech Club Fair.
Admitted students have until May 1 to commit to Caltech.
Prefrosh Experience represents a unique opportunity for the campus community to come together and welcome admitted students and their families to the Institute, says Jarrid Whitney, executive director of admissions and financial aid.
"This signature event is truly the culmination of all our undergraduate admissions and financial aid efforts to enroll the most diverse and gender-balanced class of students who are all passionate about pursuing a rigorous STEM education," he says.
Whitney adds that changing the event from a Thursday-to-Saturday to a Monday-to-Wednesday format enables the Institute to provide more academic programming while still supporting the various student-specific social events during the evenings.
For the first time, this year's attendees can also use a mobile app for the event, called Guidebook, which offers an event schedule, information about the Institute, and a built-in Caltech scavenger hunt.
