Currie's qualifications and experience have prepared him well to assume leadership of Caltech's business and financial operations. He is an undergraduate alumnus of Harvard University and also holds a master's degree in business administration from that institution. Before moving to Rice in 1988, he served as associate dean for administration and policy planning at the Graduate School of Business Administration of Harvard University.

Currie introduced new administrative software for finance, payroll, human resources and student systems to enhance operations at Rice. He also oversaw a co-generation operation on line that provides 80 percent of the University's electrical, heating and cooling needs. Additionally, Currie orchestrated Rice's first bond offering, which attained a AAA rating.
Currie has many professional affiliations and has served on numerous boards, including the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the Council on Governmental Relations, the YMCA of the Rockies, China International Trade Associates, the TIAA-CREF Advisory Council, and the Joslin Diabetes Center. ###
