Fifth Annual Caltech Jazz Festival

PASADENA, Calif.-The Gates Library garden will be the intimate setting for the fifth annual Caltech Jazz Festival, taking place on Saturday, April 30, from 1 to 6 p.m. The Gates Library is south of Beckman Auditorium, close to the center of campus. The event is free and the public is invited. No tickets are required.

The afternoon will consist of performances by the Caltech Jazz Bands directed by William Bing. Guest bands will include Big Band Theory and SGS, a seven-piece rock and jazz ensemble led by JPL trombonist Jim Lewis.

Special guest artist, acclaimed trumpeter Nolan Shaheed, will also appear with his quintet. Shaheed has played with many musical legends throughout his career, including Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Marvin Gaye, Count Basie, and Aretha Franklin, among others. "Shaheed is one of the most prolific jazz trumpeters of this era," says the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Shaheed has traveled the world, playing throughout Europe, South America, Australia, Japan, and other countries.
