Lecture: "More Than Pretty Pictures"

Felice Frankel, an award-winning science photographer and research scientist whose images have appeared on the covers of Scientific American, Nature, and Physics Today, will give a talk in Caltech's Baxter Lecture Hall on Monday, February 10, at 7 p.m. Frankel is a research scientist at MIT in the department of chemical engineering. She joined MIT in 1994.

In her lecture, titled, "More Than Pretty Pictures," Frankel will describe how visual representations of science can communicate in ways that words cannot. She will discuss her approach to creating depictions in science and engineering—both the successes and failures—and will also consider how far one can go when "enhancing" science images.

The event is organized by the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences as part of the Caltech-Huntington Program in Visual Culture, which is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and based in the Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
