PASADENA—The California Institute of Technology is pleased to announce the appointment of Timothy Downes, as the director of athletics and physical education.
"He is an articulate, imaginative, and energetic professional who will be a real asset to our community," says Sharyn Slavin Miller, assistant vice president for student affairs. "We'd also like to thank Kevin Austin and Brad Sturtevant, search committee cochairs, and the members of the committee for their efforts. Also, a special thanks goes to Wendell Jack, the interim director, who ensured that Athletics and Physical Education ran smoothly while the search was conducted."
Timothy Downes joins Caltech from Johns Hopkins University, where he was the associate director of athletics since 1995. He holds a BA from Dartmouth College (where he was a four-year starter on the men's varsity lacrosse team and made the 1988 All-New England team), and a JD from Washington and Lee University.
