Pasadena—Athena R. Castro has been appointed the new executive director of the Caltech Y by the Caltech Y board of directors. In this capacity, Castro will identify and respond to student needs and concerns. She will also be responsible for implementing student programs and general activities for the Caltech Y. Castro, who earned a BA from Scripps College in Claremont, and a master's degree from Azusa Pacific University, has an extensive background in educational administration. She has served in several program administration positions at Caltech, including assistant director of minority student affairs and community outreach coordinator.
The Caltech Y is a nonprofit, student-guided organization that offers students the opportunity to learn about the needs of society through community service. It operates student leadership programs, community service and volunteer programs, among other worthy activities.
