A Chronicle of Black Students at Caltech
Please join the Caltech Center for Diversity for a celebration of Black History Month by welcoming alum. Dr. Edray Goins for a presentation entitled, A Chronicle of Black Students at Caltech. Dr. Goins will talk about the history of Caltech's black students – including the first undergraduate and graduate students, and honor Lee F. Browne who tirelessly worked to increase diversity and promote the value of diversity at Caltech. Dr. Goins is a professor of mathematics at Pomona College. He earned his B.S. in mathematics and physics here at Caltech, and his Ph.D in Mathematics at Stanford University. A native of South Los Angeles, Dr. Goins spends his time engaging underrepresented students in mathematical research. He has taught mathematics and physics in the Freshman Summer Institute (FSI – currently FSRI) here at Caltech, and currently runs an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) titled "Pomona Research in Mathematics Experience (PRiME)."
