Abhaya (The Fearless): A Classical Indian Dance Performance
- Public Event
Join the Caltech Y and Oasis for Abhaya (The Fearless): A Classical Indian Dance Performance presented by Kalalayam Dance Company hosted by Janani Mandayam Comar, the Caltech Y Advocating Change Together (ACT) Award receipient.
In a world plagued by poverty, drugs, and war, economists say that the solution to our problems lies in the hands of those that we have most neglected: women. They may make up 70% of the world's poorest, but they are definitely more than 50% of the world's brightest. Join us in exploring the powerful essence of female divinity in Hindu culture and philosophy and celebrating those who manifest their inner strength daily.
The Caltech Y's ACT Award provides motivated Caltech students with a unique opportunity to learn about themselves and their place in society through community engagement, activism and leadership. Last year's ACT Award recipient was Janani Mandayam Comar. She used the opportunity to travel to Thailand and volunteered at a shelter for girls who were identified as victims or potential victims of human trafficking. Now back on campus she is working to promote awareness of human trafficking. Abhaya (The Fearless) is the next event in Janani's campaign. Please join us as we explore this important issue. The ACT Award was made possible with generous funding from the Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union.
