Mars 2020 Spacecraft Systems
Matthew Wallace, Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
The Mars 2020 Project is JPL's next flagship mission. The Project seeks to leverage off the substantial investments in spacecraft technologies developed by Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Curiosity mission - including MSL's successful Mars atmospheric entry and hypersonic guidance designs, and the innovative Sky Crane delivery system used to land Curiosity in August of 2012. However, Mars 2020 will carry a new suite of capable science instruments, a technology demonstration of in-situ oxygen production, and will collect a set of sample cores for possible return to earth by later missions.
