Precision Landing for SpaceX's Reusable Rockets
Lars Blackmore,
Dr.,
SpaceX,
SpaceX's reusable rocket program aims to reduce the cost of space travel by an order of magnitude. The reusable Falcon 9 rocket (F9-R) will return from space and perform a precision landing at the launch site, enabling aircraft-like operations. In the past months, SpaceX has achieved a soft, precision ocean landing of the F9-R first stage and two 'close-but-no-cigar' landings on a floating landing platform. This talk will give an update on recent successes and failures, and discuss the Guidance, Navigation and Control challenges associated with precision landing.
