Convex Polytopes and Local Models of Shimura Varieties

In this talk, I will explain my recent work on the central degeneration of semi-infinite orbits, Iwahori orbits and MV cycles in the affine Grassmannian. The central degeneration shows up in local models of Shimura varieties and Gaitsgory's central sheaves. I will point out the connections to affine Deligne Lusztig varieties and Zhu's work on the Coherence Conjecture. I will also use lots of convex polytopes to illustrate my results
