Associates Program: The Techer Species
5:15 p.m. Reception
6:00 p.m. Buffet dinner and program
In order to survive in the wild, monkeys forage, lions hunt, and Techers solve. These Caltech students thrive by hunting and gathering knowledge—their DNA is programmed for the quest with 99% of Techers placing in the top tenth of their high school graduating class. This rare and varied species presents a fascinating study opportunity. Within their small, 124-acre habitat, students are able to fully immerse themselves in the Institute's research culture and gain close access to star professors at a 3:1 student-faculty ratio. While pursuing knowledge, they also demonstrate a remarkable capacity for play. Along with annual festivities such as Ditch Day and Frosh Camp, on Halloween night students drop pumpkins dunked in liquid nitrogen from Caltech's tallest building to see if they give off a brief glow as they hit the ground and shatter.
Join us to hear from three Techers supported by the Associates and learn about student life, research experiences, some of their more mischievous behaviors, and how their work may shape our future.
