Simple Behavior from Complex Galaxies
George Helou,
Research Professor of Physics; Executive Director of IPAC,
California Institute of Technology,
Galaxies are complex systems that exhibit some surprisingly simple non-trivial behaviors. This talk will follow a couple of infrared threads in a search for physical drivers of these behaviors, and for their role in galaxy evolution. One thread starts with galaxy sample definitions, then examines infrared SEDs as clues to energetic processes in galaxies. The other thread explores deviations from the infrared-radio correlation and what they reveal about galaxy evolution.
