Bandorama: Caltech Concert and Jazz Bands

This 26^th annual concert will bring to you the winner of the first annual Caltech competition for new music for concert band. This year's winner, Chris Renk, will fly all the way from Minneapolis to be with us that evening. His very interesting piece is called "Metropolis Dawn" and is a programmatic work that is descriptive of the construction of the Empire State Building. As you might imagine, it's a very dramatic work.

The concert band will also play a medley of songs from the great opera La Boheme. The jazz bands will play music that brings back memories of the big band days, with such classics as "String of Pearls," "Sweet Georgia Brown," "Pennsylvania 6-5000," and the beautiful ballad "My Romance" by Richard Rogers.

A reception for all will follow the concert.
