California's Green Goals: 2030 and Beyond. A discussion with Michael Picker, former President of the California Public Utilities Commission.
California has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030, with the goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2045. What are the key areas that need to be targeted, and what are the major policy drivers of this change? What challenges stand in the way?
In this event we'll hear from Michael Picker, who was president of the California Public Utilities Commission from 2014 to 2019, about the steps California is taking to reduce carbon emissions. He will start with a brief overview of the current situation, followed by plenty of time for Q and A. Be sure to bring your questions!
The event will be moderated by Ollie Stephenson, graduate student in geophysics and a member of the American Geophysical Union's 'Voices for Science' program.
