Caltech Associates Event: On a Mission, Exploring Mars
Ring in the holidays in a uniquely Caltech way: learn about a daring scientific endeavor while enjoying the Athenaeum's elaborate winter decorations. Professor Kenneth Farley will provide an update on Mars 2020, an ambitious mission that seeks to uncover how the Red Planet's once active landscape, filled with volcanic eruptions and flash floods, is now desolate. Set to launch next summer, Mars 2020 will also search for ancient life, deploy the first an autonomous helicopter in space, and collect Martian rocks that may one day be sent to Earth.
