Weaving together literature, archives, and the history of science, Professor Nicolas Wey-Gomez explores European presence in the Americas in unexpected ways. He will examine how the idea and legal theory of human rights began to develop even as the voyages of Christopher Columbus and other explorers forged the first global empires in the early modern world.
