At a time when terrorist attacks seem to be increasing and sowing fear across the globe, stepping back into the medieval past can expose how Western nations' ideas about terrorism have been shaped by their own cultural understandings of order and violence.
Join Caltech's Professor of History Warren C. Brown as he examines how terror was used in the Middle Ages to achieve specific goals and how societal, cultural, and legal norms governed Europeans' use of terror as a weapon, providing a new perspective which may help us better understand the motivation behind acts of terror carried out today.
