Caltech Playreaders 65th Season: "Postmortem" by Ken Ludwig
Directed by Diana St. James
It's April, 1922, and the cast of William Gillette's latest Broadway revival of "Sherlock Holmes" has assembled for a weekend at his magnificent mock-medieval castle. Actor-manager, playwright and heart-throb William Gillette — best known for adapting Arthur Conan Doyle's stories and having played the famous crime sleuth Sherlock Holmes — has a new role: real-life detective. Did his fiancé, Maude, really kill herself a year ago to this very day, as the police have said? Or was she actually murdered? Will the murderer strike again? Gillette plans to solve the case himself utilizing all he has learned from playing Sherlock Holmes for over 20 years.
