Caltech Playreaders 67th Season: "Leading Ladies' by Ken Ludwig
Directed and Introduced by Joanne Doyle
Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French. Inc
Leo and Jack are down-on-their-luck Shakespearean actors, performing on the Moose Lodge
Circuit, who decide to pose as the long-lost heiresses to a considerable fortune. Complications
ensue: the wealthy aunt reported deceased isn't, the family minister is determined to prove them
fakes, and the boys fall head over heels in love with the girls they're supposed to hoodwink.
With sly allusions to Twelfth Night and generous nods to Some Like It Hot, Ludwig celebrates
and adds new and very funny dimensions to the great shared tradition of mischief and
masquerade in gender-bending comedies that runs from Shakespeare's time to the present.
Admission is $3.00 for members of the Caltech Women's Club; $4.00 for all others. Light refreshments will be served after the reading.
To dine at the Athenaeum beforehand, call (626) 395-8204 for reservations. Plan to be seated by 5:30. You are welcome to join the Playreaders table.
