Cathy Barton and Dave Para
- Public Event
Cathy Barton and Dave Para return to the delight of many. This pair, from Booneville, Missouri, do so much to keep alive the music and traditions of Missouri and the Ozarks. They are master musicians, playing hammered and fretted dulcimers, banjo, guitar and Autoharp, as well as "found" instruments like bones, spoons, mouthbow and leaf. They're both fine singers, both solo and in harmony, and their instrumentals run the gamut from lively to sad.
Their concerts present a range of music from the upbeat dance tunes they have collected in their home region to old ballads to new songs. They specialize in songs from the Civil War, from American rivers, old gospel songs and a few other niches. They really get down to the roots of traditional music in the United States, explaining how the songs came to them, and they are an active component in that tradition.
