The Quest for Consciousness: A Neurobiological Approach

New scientific tools that look inside functioning animal and human brains raise the tantalizing possibility that we are getting closer to understanding the relationship between the conscious mind and the brain, the age-old mind-body problem. Koch will focus on the approach that he and Francis Crick (co-discoverer of the DNA helix) have taken to find and characterize the neuronal correlates of consciousness in mice, monkeys, and humans.

Christof Koch is Lois and Victor Troendle Professor of Cognitive and Behavioral Biology and the Executive Officer of Computation and Neural Systems at Caltech. He is the author, most recently, of the book The Quest for Consciousness: A Neurobiological Approach which will be available for purchase and signing at this event.
