CMA Presents "A Sneak Preview of 'Aliens of the Deep'"
A sneak preview of the Disney IMAX-3D film, "Aliens of the Deep," with an introduction by the Director, James Cameron
Location: Universal City Walk IMAX Theater, Universal City
Last year, JPL and NASA accepted James Cameron's invitation to participate in a remarkable scientific exploration adventure. Cameron assembled an international, multi-institutional, cross-disciplinary expedition to visit deep-sea hydrothermal vents in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The goal was to make a documentary telling the story of how life exists in extreme environments, what its existence suggests about the possibility of life on other worlds, and how humans go about exploring these hostile places.
The expedition provided JPL scientists an opportunity to do cutting-edge research aboard the Russian research vessel "Akademik Mstislav Keldysh," and to dive in her MIR submersibles to make first-ever in situ measurements with a JPL ultraviolet fluorimeter instrument specially configured for the task.
Don't miss this sneak preview of Cameron's latest IMAX film — the 3D imagery of this 45-minute adventure will knock your socks off!
After the screening, you can mingle with the engineering team and expedition participants.
This event is free and open to JPL and Campus personnel, family members, and retirees. Seating is limited, so tickets must be obtained at the JPL Store or Caltech Bookstore (the limit is two tickets per person, on a first-come, first-served basis). Some reserved seating for CMA members is available; send your request to [email protected].
