CMA Presents "Data + Art: Art and Science in the Age of Information"
CMA members only
Location: Pasadena Museum of California Art, 490 East Union Street, Pasadena, CA 91101
It appears that more data is being collected just this year alone than in the cumulative history of humanity. Every moment, mountains of data are collected, filtered, organized, searched, visualized, sonified, filed, archived, and forgotten. Artists and scientists often explore these aspects of data in new and beautiful ways — some for the sake of understanding, others for personal expression. By combing through the vast amount of information collected every moment, they reveal to us the hidden stories about the natural world and the human condition.
Join curators Dan Goods and David Delgado as they give us a private tour of an exhibition titled "Data + Art: Art and Science in the Age of Information" at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. The exhibition explores how data can be experienced and translated into startling forms. Pieces include phototropic robots, an interactive laser scanning system used for a Radiohead music video, and architectural images made from email spam.
Currently, the museum has two other exhibitions: "Eye in the Sky," which showcases new imagery from JPL's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft; and "Micronautics," which features electron microscopic images of everyday materials.
This event is free, but open only to CMA members. To register for the tour, send email to [email protected]. To become a member, follow the instructions at http://cma.jpl.nasa.gov/membership.html. Once you've become a member, you can sign up for the tour.
