CMA Presents "21st Century Chemistry: Fuel from Sunlight and Water"

One of the toughest problems for 21st Century science is making fuel — safe, clean, affordable, and renewable fuel. Developing such an energy source would change the world forever. Burning of precious hydrocarbons, emissions of green-house gases, and dependence on unstable production sources would all be dramatically reduced. Spectacular advances in chemistry have shown us the way to use sunlight to split water into clean hydrogen fuel. Come join us and hear Dr. Harry Gray shed light on solar cells and solar paints that might one day allow you to obtain electricity from the paint on your house or car!

Illuminating the current state of affairs and future prospects of this research will be Dr. Harry Gray, the Arnold O. Beckman Professor of Chemistry and Founding Director of the Beckman Institute. Professor Gray has been at Caltech for 36 years, where his interdisciplinary research program addresses a wide range of fundamental problems in inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, and biophysics.
