CMA Presents "Recharging the Innovation Engine at Amgen"
When Roger Perlmutter joined Amgen as the Executive Vice President of Research and Development, his first mission was to recharge its innovation engine. Since then, the research effort has roughly tripled to more than 6,000 people and $3.4 billion in spending, and the number of drug candidates under development has similarly soared. Dr. Perlmutter will discuss the successes and challenges he has faced while growing the drug pipeline. In addition, he will share his thoughts on what the future holds for Amgen.
From 1984 to 1997, Dr. Perlmutter was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and from 1989 to 1997 he served as chairman of the Department of Immunology at the University of Washington. In 2001, Dr. Perlmutter left his position of Executive Vice President at Merck Research Laboratories to join Amgen. He holds a doctorate in immunology and a medical degree from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and did a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Lee Hood at Caltech.
This event is free, and all members of the Caltech and JPL communities and retirees are welcome. Information: [email protected] or 395-6373.
