CMA Presents "Nuclear Weapons, Nuclear Power, and Climate Change: Options and Opportunities for the Next Administration"
Presented by CMA and the JPL Office of the Chief Scientist and Chief Technologist
On November 4, 2008, the next President of the United States will be elected; on January 20, 2009, he or she will take office and the next administration will begin to face a series of issues related to the domestic and international nuclear enterprise. During the past year, a small group at the Department of Energy (DOE) has been analyzing these issues with a view toward providing the Presidential and DOE transition team an objective perspective on how the U.S. nuclear enterprise—nuclear weapons, power, and materials—can play a pivotal role in our current and future national security and economic well being, and in the global environment (including climate change). Please join us for Dr. Victor Reis' talk, which will review the results of this DOE effort so far.
Dr. Reis is Senior Advisor, Office of the Secretary, DOE. He is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Group of the U.S. Strategic Command. Dr. Reis led the development of the DOE Stockpile Stewardship Program when he was Assistant Secretary for that agency's Defense Programs. Dr. Reis earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a master's degree in the same discipline from Yale University, and both a master's degree and doctorate from Princeton University.
This event is free. All members of the Campus and JPL communities and retirees are welcome.
