Coleman Competition Winners Concert
- Public Event
On Sunday, April 25, 2004, the winners of the 58th annual Competition will perform in Ramo Auditorium at 3:30 p.m. Music lovers are also invited to the Competition itself, which will take place on Saturday, April 24, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and is open to the public, free of charge.
Begun in 1947 as the Coleman Auditions for young, non-professional performers, the Competition originally included junior, intermediate, and senior categories. Currently up to 16 finalists (selected by preliminary judging on the basis of submitted recordings) compete together for substantial prizes. Entrants still must be non-professional, and the average age of each ensemble must be less than 26. Recent winning ensembles have ranged in average age from 17 to 25.
Presentation of the awards and a reception will follow the concert.
