Generating functions and enumeration in finite classical groups
Jason Fulman, Department of Mathematics, USC,

We give three examples of enumeration in finite classical groups for which generating functions are very powerful, sometimes giving the only known method of obtaining sharp results. The examples are:

1) enumeration of cyclic matrices

2) enumeration of involutions

3) enumeration of maximal tori
