Hamiltonian Theory of Fractionally Filled Chern Bands
Ganpathy Murthy, Professor, University of Kentucky,

Recent numerical investigations have revealed that when a band with a nonzero Chern number (a Chern band) is fractionally filled, it exhibits fractional-quantum-Hall-like incrompressible states with quantized fractional Hall conductance. In the case of 2DEGs in an external magnetic field, we are used to thinking of FQHE in terms of composite particles, which are electrons with flux "attached." I will show how one can rewrite the Chern band problem in terms of Composite Fermions by an operator mapping and obtain mean-field ground states in such cases.
