Bring a colleague or lead TA to one or all sessions of this workshop series dedicated to making changes to improve your existing courses. Topics include: Assessing Learning (How do you know what students know?), Revamping Course Content (What stays, what goes?), Using Class Time, Project-Based Learning, and Efficient and Effective Homework.

Workshops meet Tuesdays from 11am-noon in CSS 360 with optional worktime immediately following.

  • Tuesday, October 22: Project-Based Learning
Have you wanted to try to include a student project in your course? Not sure where to start? We'll discuss the basic steps of project-based learning and work on designing a effective and engaging project of any size.

  • Tuesday, November 5: Revamping Course Content (What stays, what goes?)
Do you need to streamline your course content but don't know where to start? Do you want to introduce new material, but you don't know how to fit it in? We'll talk about strategies to identify your key goals and how to use those to guide the selection (and cutting) of material in your course.

  • Tuesday, November 12: Efficient and Effective Homework
Homework is a great way for students to practice new skills, but without immediate feedback students can become lost or practice these skills incorrectly. In this workshop we'll talk about ways to help students learn and apply key skills effectively and efficiently. We'll also discuss strategies for assignment creation that can reduce grading time while still giving students the feedback they need.
