Join Dr. Baltimore in a free-flowing discussion with Dean Kamen, inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. The array of products and technologies invented and developed by Kamen and the engineering team at DEKA is extremely broad.

Two notable breakthrough medical devices invented and developed by DEKA are the HomeChoice™ portable dialysis machine, marketed by Baxter Healthcare, and the Independence™ IBOT™ Mobility System, a sophisticated mobility aid capable of climbing stairs, navigating rough terrain, and raising the user to eye-level with a standing person, developed for Johnson & Johnson.

With his latest creation, the Segway™ Human Transporter (HT), Kamen aspired to improve upon the most basic form of transportation, walking, by allowing people to go farther, move more quickly, and carry more without separating them from their everyday walking environment. As a result, Segway™ HT is a breakthrough in personal transportation that uses sophisticated and elegant self-balancing technology to improve the way people work and live.

This event, a free-ranging discussion between Kamen and Caltech President David Baltimore, is sponsored by the President's Office.
