Abstract:

  • If "Bursty Traffic : Packet Switching," then "Heterogeneous Traffic : ?"
  • If AT&T charges you $10 a GB, would you still watch that much video on tablet?
  • If there're multiple radios on your phone, who should choose which one to use?

In trying to formulate the above questions and to influence industry directions, we observe an emergent, coherent theme. In this talk, I'll explore the interactions between economics and engineering in Smart Data Pricing, the "rise of the clients" in wireless network control, and the "descend" of cloud infrastructure to end users in the evolution of network architecture.
