Earth—Power of the Planet: Rare Earth
Beckman Auditorium
- Public Event
Our planet is unique in the solar system, perhaps even in the galaxy. It has taken four and a half billion years to turn the Earth from a hostile, barren rock into the life-giving world we know today. In this film, we will explore some key chapters in Earth's past - from the formation of the Moon, to mass extinctions of life - and ask how essential these chance events were for the emergence of complex life, including us.
Christopher Spalding, a graduate student in Geological and Planetary Sciences at Caltech, will introduce the film and guide the post-screening discussion.
