Metamorphoses is a play by American playwright Mary Zimmerman, adapted fromthe works of Ovid. It was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play in 2002.

The central idea of Metamorphoses is the concept of change. To "metamorphose" literally means to change strikingly the appearance or character of something. Metamorphoses is full of instances of change. It is staged as a series of vignettes with each story containing at least one example of metamorphoses.

This theme of change is strongly tied to the reliance of the play upon water. The production requires construction of a large reflecting pool that will sit center stage and occupy most of the space. EXPLiCIT members, including Caltech undergraduate and graduate students, staff and JPL engineers, will undertake original construction of a reflecting pool on the Caltech campus for use in the production. The pool is central to all of the stories told in the play, though its function changes throughout. The pool becomes, at varying times, a swimming pool, a washing basin, the River Styx of the Underworld, and the sea.

The play will also be performed on Saturday and Sunday evenings, August 6, 7, 12 and 13.
