Technology entrepreneur and Caltech alum David Cutrer will discuss entrepreneurship from the angle of being a technical or scientific founder of a company. Topics include how successful start-up companies must be driven by sales, why a key to success is knowing what you are NOT good at, how to recruit team members who compliment your strengths, and why you should aim to build a highly customer focused organization.

Technology entrepreneur and Caltech alum David Cutrer will discuss entrepreneurship from the angle of being a technical or scientific founder of a company. Topics include how to build a well-rounded founding team, how to interact with co-workers who have vastly different skillsets, and how to balance deep immersion in technology with other responsibilities of founding a startup.

 

David Cutrer '92, Founded NextG in April 2001.  He has served as chief technology officer and member of the board of directors since co-founding NextG in April 2001. Before co-founding NextG, Dr. Cutrer co-founded LGC Wireless, a provider of in-building wireless coverage systems, which was subsequently acquired by ADC Telecommunications. From June 1996 to February 2001, Dr. Cutrer served LGC in several senior-level executive roles, including chief technology officer and vice president of engineering. Dr. Cutrer is a recognized expert on microcellular communications systems and holds multiple patents in the field. Dr. Cutrer received his Ph.D. and his M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and he received his B.S. in electrical engineering and applied physics from the California Institute of Technology.
