Violinist Adela Peña won the Coleman-Barstow award in 1986 as a member of the Cassatt String Quartet, and then while still a student at Juilliard joined childhood musical friends pianist Erika Nickrenz and cellist Sara Sant'Ambrogio to form the Eroica Trio, which won the Naumburg chamber music award in 1991. The joyous chemistry of the Trio led Michael Manning in The Boston Globe to write of the musicians that "they are, thankfully, exactly what a chamber ensemble should be-thoughtful, intelligent, rigorously trained musicians in love with the art of music and the artfulness of performance."

Program:

  • Beethoven: Variations on "Ich bin der Schneider Kakadu" in G Major, Op. 121a
  • Shostakovich: Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67
  • Dvořák: Trio in E minor, Op. 90 "Dumky"
