Ethnic Visions Film Series: The Jazz Singer
The famed first talking motion picture The Jazz Singer (1926) will be screened as the opening work in the spring term s Ethnic Visions Film Series. The film, which tells the story of a Jewish jazz singer torn between the tradition of his forefathers and the world of pop music, is based on the life and career of the legendary performer Al Jolson, who stars in the film. Professor Robert Rosenstone, host of the series, will lead a post-film discussion. The screening is free and open to all.
