Film Screening: La Ley de Herodes (Herods Law)
In this 1999 film directed by Luis Estrada, the corrupt mayor of a desert town in central Mexico is killed by peasants, and the poor janitor Juan Vargas is appointed the new mayor. He tries to encourage and exemplify his party's value of modernity, peace, and progress, but he soon decides that the only way to respond to corruption is with more corruption. (120 minutes)
