"Freedom Summer: A Fight for Civil Rights in Mississippi"
Longtime local activist and civil rights attorney, Dale Gronemeier, went to Mississippi in 1964 where he helped register African American voters during what has been since called Freedom Summer. He was recently highlighted in Tracy Sugarman's book, "We had Sneakers, They Had Guns: The Kids who Fought for Civil Rights in Mississippi," documenting his participation in this historical event. He's continued to be an activist throughout his life setting up a law practice in Pasadena in 1981. Throughout his career, he's done a great deal of civil liberties litigation and pro bono work as well as 9 years of college and law school teaching. Join us in hearing a few war stories about Mississippi in the summer of 1964, the freedom struggle, and its place in American history.
