Funding Your Research: Grant Writing and Non-Governmental Funding Sources
One of the primary challenges facing researchers is ensuring sufficient funding for their work. Most postdocs and students have little experience with this task, but it is an essential skill for anyone wishing to eventually run their own lab. The Caltech Postdoctoral Association's Career Committee has organized a seminar to introduce early-career researchers to the art and science of funding a research program. Prof. Sossina Haile (Carl F. Braun Professor, Materials Science and Chemical Engineering) will address grant writing from the faculty perspective, including topics such as choosing the right funding agency, the grant writing process, and how to present your research in the most useful manner. Sandya Narayanswami, Caltech's Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, will discuss research funding by corporate and non-profit organizations, including identification of funding sources, writing targeted proposals, and interfacing with the university. All members of the Caltech community are welcome, and questions are encouraged.
