GalCon: Galileo Lecture, Tea, Discussion
- Public Event
Presented By: | Caltech Performing and Visual Arts |
GalCon, a one-day conference accompanying the production of Bertolt Brecht's Life of Galileo by Theater Arts at Caltech, will feature a lecture from world-famous Galileo scholar and historian Noel Swerdlow, as well as a roundtable discussion of the play and its interrogation of scientific inquiry. The event will engender interdisciplinary dialogues between scientists, historians, and theatre scholars and practitioners.
Noel Swerdlow, Visiting Professor of History at Caltech, is Professor Emeritus of History and of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Chicago. His research is concerned with the history of the exact science, astronomy in particular, and he is now working on a study of astronomy in the Renaissance concentrating on Regiomontanus, Copernicus, Tycho, Kepler, and Galileo.
GalCon will be held outdoors at the Gates Patio, on the north side of building #26 (see PDF of campus map).
