Thin groups in arithmetic and beyond
Elena Fuchs, Asistant Professor, Mathematics, Univerity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,

In the past decade, thin subgroups of GL_n(Z) have become of
great interest to number theorists after Bourgain, Gamburd, and Sarnak
developed a method to count "prime points" in integer orbits of such
groups. Since this method uses tools from a variety of fields, thin groups
are currently studied from a variety of different perspectives. In this
talk, we discuss some number theoretic results involving thin groups and
also consider the question of how to tell whether a given finitely
generated group is thin or not.
