Es war einmal in Deutschland "Bye Bye Germany" // 2017 // Starring Moritz Bleibtreu, Antje Traue, Tim Seyfi

Frankfurt, 1946 – the war is over – There are, including David Berman and his Jewish friends, about 4, 000 survivors of the Holocaust who want to leave Germany as soon as possible – dreaming about life in the USA or in Palestine.  That takes money, visas and various traveling permits. No problem. Selling fine linens door-to-door to war widows in the neighborhood is bringing needed funds. Close to his aim, David is not only losing his savings, but also overtaken by his possible shady past. Did he collaborate with the Nazis?

A story based on some truth and some lies. And, "the lies are also true", "because without them life would not be bearable". (David)  A funny, sad movie. Besides writers Borchert and Boell few have told us about that period in German history.

All interested are welcome!

NOTE FOR VISITORS: Enter South (Ramo) end of building across pond and walk up stairs – for elevators enter North end on "grass" side – Somebody will be there should doors be locked and direct you to the lecture hall.
