A drawing by Michelangelo becomes a major chess piece in Nazi plans regarding Italy and Mussolini.  Victor (Moritz Bleibtreu), the son of a wealthy Jewish art dealer, and Rudi (Georg Friedrich), the son of their servant, are best friends and love the same girl, Lena (Ursula Strauss). Rudi turns into a Nazi follower and Victor becomes his enemy. But that drawing - only Victor's family knows where it is. A game of cat and mouse between the old friends involves plane crashes, stolen identities, and lots of bad guys in Nazi uniforms, many clichés, but the numerous twists in plot and turn of events make for a satisfying conclusion of the fairy tale.
