Integrating equity and inclusion into STEM coursework
This workshop will be led by Kay Xia, CCE Postdoc
Diversity, equity, and inclusion topics are often considered extracurricular to STEM programs, but the impacts of scientific research have had unequal benefits and harms to different communities. Because communities who have been historically excluded from scientific research tend to be burdened with disproportionate risks and harms, consideration of equity and inclusion should be an essential aspect of conducting good science. This workshop will discuss ways to incorporate social responsibility and justice into STEM coursework and research practice, and introduce educational research methods to evaluate the success of these teaching methods.
