Intermediate Standard Ballroom Dancing Technique Workshop

This is the first in a four-week series introducing the advanced techniques of competitive-style international standard ballroom dancing. Today's class will cover waltz and Viennese waltz.

This class series is suitable for dancers interested in competition or just improving their dances. The classes will cover posture, movement, connection and musicality in all standard dances.

Week 1 (May 8): Foxtrot
Week 2 (May 15): Quickstep
Week 3 (May 22): Tango
Week 4 (SATURDAY JUNE 4): 1 hour of Waltz, 1 hour of Viennese Waltz
(Week 4 will take place on Saturday June 4 1-3pm in Winnett Lounge).

About the Instructor:

Wanwan Yang graduated from Caltech with a PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering. She was CBDC team captain from 2004 to 2005. She has been actively competing in open Standard categories in the past three years. She placed 1st in Novice Standard and 4th in Pre-championship Standard in the Desert Classic DanceSport Championships in 2009.

Cost:

  • $4 per class or $15/series (4 weeks) in advance for Caltech students (with ID).
  • $8 per class or $30/series (4 weeks) in advance for Caltech affiliates and alumni and for students of other universities (with ID).
  • $12 per class or $45/series (4 weeks) in advance for all others.

Prerequisites:
Dancers should be able to do the basic Bronze figures in the standard dances.
