Intermediate West Coast Swing Workshop: Musicality and Numbers
$5 for Caltech students and affiliates, $5 for other students, $10 for community member
Take your West Coast Swing to the next level with this Intermediate Workshop on Musicality taught by professional instructor Doug Silton.
As an INTERMEDIATE workshop, you're already expected to be a West Coast Swing dancer (familiar and comfortable with the Sugar Push, Left Side Pass, Right Side Pass, Underarm Pass, Whip, etc).
Doug will guide you through Phrasing, Macro and Micro Musicality, Syncopations, Musical Improv, and how to better connect to your partner and the dance floor using the all-encompassing power of West Coast Swing music.
Stylistically, Doug will teach you body movement and footwork to the music when your partnering won't allow you to have full freedom of movement.
Please bring: Your Dance Shoes, A Pen, and an Open Mind
About the instructor: Doug Silton, a San Gabriel Valley Native, has traveled the world for the last decade teaching, competing, and performing. He's appeared in movies and on television and choreographed sections of Bette Midler's tour. But he's more known for his dancing (West Coast Swing & Lindy Hop), dance techniques, detailed yet fun instruction style, and his entertainment value. A top-ranked competitor in the swing-dancing worlds and the co-founder of LindyGroove, the country's largest weekly dance venue right around the corner from Caltech (Thursdays at http://www.LindyGroove.com), is excited about bringing Lindy Hop to Caltech.
Doug teaches private lessons daily in Pasadena and has a full line of instructional videos ... see http://DougSilton.com for details.
