Trial By Fire: How Catastrophes and Collisions Enabled Life on Earth
- Public Event
There are nearly 9 million species alive on Earth today, but we haven't found any forms of life outside of our planet. What makes Earth so special? We will investigate the events that have allowed Earth to develop and protect complex life, from the formation of the moon to asteroid impacts and volcanic eruptions.
This stunning high-definition movie will serve as the springboard for a lively discussion about the science behind the beauty and wonder of nature.
Kirsten Siebach, a graduate student in Geological and Planetary Sciences at Caltech, will introduce the film and guide the post-screening discussion.
Recommended for grades 3 and up.
