Animals have strange, built-in equipment to catch their prey. The bolas spider lures a moth with a tantalizing scent, then lassoes it in a silk rope with a glue end that wraps and traps it. A velvet worm has nozzles that fire streams of glue to ensnare prey. Pistol shrimps use their claws as sonic weapons. Mantis shrimps spear their food or smash it with heavily calcified clubs. [A John Downer production for BBC and Discovery Channel]

Recommended for grades 3-12

Will Ford of Caltech's Computation and Neural Systems Department will introduce the film and guide the post-screening discussion.

This event is made possible through Caltech's participation in the CineMuse Network.
